Monday, February 8

Continuing Professional Development Courses:

9am-11:30am   CPD1 Excel and Engineering Economics

Whether you are an engineering economics expert, studying for the FE, studying for the PE, or simply want a refresher, this CPD will have something for you.  Tyler and Mike will present content from their engineering economics and farm management classes and give a few excel tips along the way.   Instructors: Michael Montross, University of Kentucky; Tyler Mark, University of Kentucky.

9am-11:30am  CPD2 Supply Chain Management

The COVID-19 virus and the related travel restrictions and shutdowns upended many manufacturers' supply chains.  It created the ideal situation to expose weakness in supply chain management and to demonstrate the crippling effect those weaknesses can have on manufacturing operations.  Now, more than ever, companies need to have responsive, lean, and dependable supply chain partners.  Our presenter for this CPD will be Paul Ericksen.  Beginning his career as an engineer, Paul retired from John Deere after 30 years where he progressed into managerial level positions in the supply chain.  Currently, Ericksen is the Supply Chain Advisor for Industry Week magazine and advises organizations on supply management practice while promoting progressive changes in supply management strategy.  In this CPD, Ericksen will explain the differences between sourcing with commodity versus engineered product suppliers, show the relationship between supplier capability and executive-level performance metrics (above and beyond piece price), and include case study discussions that demonstrate the value of adopting progressive supply management strategies.  He will also explain what suppliers can do in order to best market themselves to their customers.  Please plan to attend this exciting discussion and learn how to develop strong partnerships that lead to consistent performance and profitability.  Instructor: Paul Ericksen, Supply Chain Advisor Industry Week magazine.

9am-11:30am  CPD3 Closed Circuit Hydrostatic Transmission Sizing and Considerations

Proper system sizing and component selection are critical to the performance of closed-circuit hydrostatic transmissions in off-highway vehicles.  This session will focus on a process to effectively size a hydrostatic transmission for vehicle propulsion or other functions based on application requirements.  Important design considerations including charge supply and loop flushing, system pressure protection, and pump and motor controls will also be discussed.  Session will also include a practical exercise to demonstrate the sizing process.  Instructor: Wyatt Hall, Systems & Applications Engineer, Danfoss Power Solutions.

Distinguished Lecture Series

12:30pm-1:30pm  ISOBUS – The Open Wired Network for Tractor-Implement Communication 1987-2020  Several ideas of agricultural electronics were born in 1980’s when the first electronic systems were introduced to control functions of a tractor, as rear hitch. In the 1990’s, the trend was toward mechatronic control of machinery but also towards informatics and data management. Both of these technological advances were requiring standardized communication interfaces for modular machinery systems used in farms around the world – tractor and implements. In this lecture, we go through the major milestones of ISOBUS; or ISO 11783 standard series. In addition, the lecture presents the current state of the art of ISOBUS technology, both as the ISO standard but also industrial aspects to develop products and deploy those successfully to the market in practice. We also discuss the future of the open ISOBUS for the next decades.
